WAYCROSS, Ga. - William Bowers Bates, Jr. M.D. passed away August 3, 2003 at University Hospital in Augusta. He was born in Danielsville, on April 27, 1921. He was graduated from Waycross High School in 1939, the University of Georgia in 1942 and the Medical College of Georgia in 1945. He married Gladys Chapman of Edgefield, South Carolina on June 12, 1945. He served as a captain in the United States Air Force in 1946 and 1947. Dr. Bates made his home in Waycross, Georgia. He dedicated 54 years of family practice to the care and welfare of the people of Ware County and beyond.
