Hasek to retire after next season

PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- He's earned millions of dollars, won Olympic gold and piled up five trophies as the NHL's top goalie. But for The Dominator, there's no place like home. Appearing relaxed and even relieved, Dominik Hasek said Thursday he would retire from the Buffalo Sabres at the end of next season so he could raise his children in his homeland, the Czech Republic. The 34-year-old goaltender said his kids, 9-year old Michal and 4-year old Dominika, find it increasingly difficult to adapt to Czech life when they go home in the offseason.

CBS tops Sports Emmy nominations

NEW YORK -- CBS led all networks with 30 Sports Emmy nominations Wednesday, including 17 from the 1998 Winter Olympics. Among the nominations, the 1998 Winter Olympics coverage received 12. CBS' "Gateway to Glory", a preview of the Olympics, and HBO's "Real Sports" with Bryant Gumbel each got five nominations. ABC's "NFL Monday Night Blast", HBO's documentary on Babe Ruth, NBC's Ironman Triathlon World Championship, Fox's Major League baseball coverage and the syndicated NFL Films Presents each had three nominations.
