Amos K. 'Pete' James  (SPRINGFIELD, S.C.)

SPRINGFIELD, S.C. - Funeral services for Activist Amos K. "Pete" James, 75, of 7850 Norway Rd., Springfield, S.C., will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2009 at New Beginning United Methodist Church, Norway, S.C., officiating, Reverend Arthur Rose, Jr., Pastor, and Reverend Wayne Fitch of First Shiloh Baptist Church, Augusta, Ga., presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Active pallbearers: Nephews and the United Methodist Men: Honorary Pallbearers: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Springfield Tigers Baseball Team. Mr. James was born in Orangeburg County, SC on September 6, 1934 to the late Calvin James, Sr. and Sadie Robinson James. He died at the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg on October 14, 2009. At an early age he joined the Pleasant Branch United Methodist Church (New Beginning) where he served as the first member of his church to become a certified Lay Speaker. He was the founder of the Springfield Tigers Baseball Team and served as coordinator of the Springfield Neighbor Service Center/OCAB for thirty years. Survivors: two brothers, John (Ella) James, Cordova, S.C. and Reverend Willie L. (Eartha) James, Hephzibah, Ga.; three sisters, Peggy James Tyler, Norway, S.C., Patricia J. Holiday (Norris) Tyler, Denmark, S.C. and Clary Ann James, Springfield, S.C.; a God-sister, Sylvia J. Walker (Audrey) Neuton of Capital Heights, Md. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17th from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fulmer's Funeral Home of Springfield.
