New Augusta Mayor Bob Young will meet his first challenge as the city's chief executive today when he presides over his first Augusta Commission meeting. Commissioners are expected to elect a mayor pro tempore at the 2 p.m. meeting on the eighth floor of the Municipal Building. Mr. Young was sworn in Monday during a freezing noon ceremony in front of the Municipal Building on Greene Street. He departed from his prepared remarks to tweak his political opponents.

LOS ANGELES - A lot of people would just as soon skip over TV commercials - including the East Coast wing of the television academy. It wants to zap the new Emmys that will be handed out this year for commercials, saying the awards honor mere commerce, not culture. 'Young and the Restless' leads way in Emmys; Lucci up again

NEW YORK -- If everyone's a little preoccupied on the set of "The Young and the Restless" the next two months, they have a good excuse: They're all practicing acceptance speeches for the Daytime Emmys. The CBS soap earned a record 21 nominations Thursday. And, yes, Susan Lucci was nominated again. The hard-luck actress who has never won earned her 19th best actress nomination for Erica Kane on "All My Children." The awards will be presented May 21 in a prime-time ceremony televised by CBS.
