BURNETTOWN -- Levi J. Knight was an Indian fighter in the Wayne County, Ga., militia, held the rank of major general in the Georgia militia, and led a company of volunteers from Berrien County, Ga., with the rank of major during the Civil War. Gen. Knight's memory will be kept alive in the Horse Creek/Midland Valley Veterans Park in Burnettown by four family members in the form of a commemorative brick. And sponsors of the park say a fund-raiser for the veterans memorial is going full bore.
MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Margaret Greer Thigpen, 77, beloved wife of Thomas Thigpen entered into rest on Saturday June 7, 2008 at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday June 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Michael Davenport and Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Mrs. Thigpen was a devoted Christian lady and active member of Pineview Baptist Church. She was the Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 3200 and also Past President of the MOCA Pup Tent #3 Auxiliary. Mrs. Thigpen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thigpen is survived by her son; Michael Thigpen, her two daughters; Linda Thigpen Lee and husband Edward and Margaret Thigpen Wood, her brother; Ben Greer and wife Patricia of Easley, SC, her grandchildren; Thomas R. Thigpen, Jr. and wife Ashley, Christopher David Wood, Tammy Thomas and husband Robbie, Christen Greenway and husband Jeff, and Adarian Thigpen, and her great-grandchildren; Madison Thomas, Morgan Thomas, Jeffery Greenway, III, Aughtum Lee Greenway, and McKenzie Greenway.
