Sheriff's office filling three slots Columbia County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill three positions formerly left open because of a countywide hiring freeze implemented by county commissioners in May. Commissioners moved to lift the freeze on the three jobs Tuesday because of their critical nature, commission Chairman Pete Brodie said. The positions are a 911 dispatcher, a detention center jailer and a court bailiff. "We can begin to act to fill those positions immediately," said Sheriff's Maj. Mike Tomberlin.
