GEORGE, S.C. - Entered into eternal rest on the morning of September 16, 2007, John David Johnston, husband of Anne Jagger Johnston. Residence, St. George, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Johnston are invited to attend the funeral service of the former in St. George United Methodist Church, Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at eleven o'clock. Officiated by Dr. Frank Larisey, Dr. Wash Belingia and Dr. Ernest Mellor, Jr. Interment, St. George Cemetery. Friends may visit at the home, 306 Johnston Street, St. George, S.C. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, North Charleston, S.C. He was born on March 22, 1927 in St. George, S.C. the son of Dr. McRae Bright Johnston, DDS and Jennie Kirkland Johnston. Mr. Johnston graduated from St. George High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of South Carolina. He retired as the Regional Branch Manager for General Motors after 46 years. He was the Director of First St. George Development Corporation, instrumental in founding the Lourie Theater Corporation, was a Charter Member of the Lourie Theater Board of Directors and was Vice President in charge of operations. Recently he became Vice-President Emeritus and Chair of the Annual Fund Drive. Mr. Johnston was a member of the St. George Rotary Club, The Huguenot Society of SC, Charter Member of the Upper Dorchester County Historical Society, Life Member of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association, President of the Johnston Family Reunion, Former President of the Businessmen's Club of St. George and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the St. George Cemetery. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Orangeburg, S.C. and an Associate member of St. George United Methodist Church in St. George, S.C. He is survived by his wife of St. George, S.C.; one son, John David Johnston, Jr. and his wife Carol of Columbus, Ga.; one daughter, Anne Johnston Gregg of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Jennie Johnston McMahan and her husband E. O. McMahan of St. George and Sarah Allen Johnston Fanning of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren, Martha and Maggie Johnston of Columbus, Ga., Somers Gregg, William Gregg, John David Johnston Gregg, Alec Gregg of Columbia, S.C.; one sister-in-law, Laura Shepard Johnston of St. George, S.C. Richard "Dickie" Minus, Keith Mack Tyner, George Lawrence Fisher, James Davis Green, Jr., William Nettles Green, Harry McCullough Mims, Harry McCullough Mims, III, and Burwell Deas Manning, III will be Pallbearers.
