ATLANTA - Carole Henry isn't a regular witness before legislative committees, but Susan Weiner is. On Wednesday the two former teachers offered different recommendations on how state taxpayers should be supporting the arts.
Security company gets high rating The company that provides security at Savannah River Site has earned an outstanding rating from the Department of Energy - its third in a row. Wackenhut Services Inc. is rated twice a year to determine the company's award fee, or profit. A score of 96 out of a possible 100 for the period between April 1 and Sept. 30 brings Wackenhut $875,000.
Groups get grant from arts council Twelve Richmond County organizations will receive $165,990 in grants from the Georgia Council on the Arts. The state awarded $2.6 million in grants around Georgia, the same amount as in the previous annual cycle, which begins July 1. In the last cycle, Augusta-area groups received $176,025. The Augusta Symphony will get $59,946, the most money of any local group. The Augusta Ballet will receive $34,472, and the Augusta Opera will receive $34,358.
