Family members include his brothers and sister-in-law, Thomas and Carol O'Brien of Youghal, County Cork, Ireland and Father Donal O'Brien of Ballyvourney, County Cork, Ireland; niece, Jane O'Brien; nephews, Paul O'Brien and John O'Brien. In Savannah , the funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Savannah, Ga. Fr. O'Brien will lie in state at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery, Savannah, Ga. In Augusta , a memorial service will be at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church this evening (Monday) at 7:00 p.m. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, Ga. John Vernon Black (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

MCG AUGUSTA, Ga. - John Vernon Black entered into rest at his residence on Thursday, May 15, 2008. He was the son of the late Edna Alma Gaines Black and Daniel Hugh Black of Norfolk, Va. He retired from the United States Navy in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969, having served his country faithfully and proudly for twenty two years. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served as a medical/ dental corpsman. Following his retirement from the Navy he worked in the Orlando area as a dental equipment technician for the Atlanta Dental Supply Company. He moved to Augusta Georgia in 1970 assuming the responsibility for the installation and maintenance of the dental equipment at the new School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Georgia, a job he loved. He received a patent nearly twenty years ago for a warm air syringe which is still used by the dental community. He retired from the Medical College of Georgia in 1992. John Vernon Black was born in High Point, North Carolina April 14, 1930. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Hendrickson Black, and two brothers, Earl Black and Daniel Hugh Black, Jr. He is survived by: two daughters, Deborah Lynn Moses and Dr. Verna Marie Diver; a son-in-law Dr. Kerry C. Diver; three grandchildren, Steven Christopher Diver, Jason Allen Rivers and Madison Rae Moses; a brother William Black and his wife Frances of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Betty Gilpin and her husband Don of Williamsburg, Va. and Nellie Smith and her husband Donnie of Kill Devil Hills, NC. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son at 10:00 am Monday, May 19, 2008 with Rev. David Arnoldt and Rev. Mr. George Foster officiating. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Trinity Hospice, Augusta, Ga. Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd. Todd Fagan and wife Rebecca; daughter, Kim Walker and husband John; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Thomas Odell Fagan; sisters, Jewell Johnson, Margie Moore and the late Faye Worthy. Mr. Fagan was a native of Aiken Co. but lived most of his life in Augusta.
