With his own future still uncertain, Lynx coach Jim Burton spent Thursday and Friday meeting with the players to discuss next season. The process began what figures to be a busy off-season for the Lynx, whose season ended Wednesday when they were eliminated by the New Orleans Brass in the ECHL Southern Conference Wild Card playoffs.

With the team's playoff fate yet to be decided, the Augusta Lynx front office can't even begin to think about next year. But general manager Paul Gamsby and coach Jim Burton - assuming they'll both be back next fall - will face some difficult decisions this off-season as they decide which players to build around for 2001-02.

ECHL makes rules changes in effort to shorten games

With the East Coast Hockey League's 12th season a month away, the league took steps last week to make several rules changes designed to shorten the length of its games in the 2000 season. No longer will a defensive player be required to touch the puck when icing is called. The linesman will blow the whistle after the puck has crossed the goal line. Delayed offsides returns to the ECHL. Players will be given the chance to return to the neutral zone before offsides is whistled. During the past two seasons, offsides was immediately whistled when the infraction occurred.
