AUGUSTA, Ga. - MSG Cecil E. McCollum, Sr, US Army Retired, 77, husband of 54 years to Margie James McCollum, of Westbrook Rd, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Eisenhower Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26 2009, at 12:00 Noon., from the First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, with Dr. Al Wright, and Tom Bugg officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Mr. McCollum will lie in state at the Church from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service. He loved the Lord and served the Lord. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesboro. He was also a member of the Spares and Pairs Sunday School Class. Mr. McCollum was a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Army, including tours in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge #412, Hephzibah, the American Legion Post #120, Waynesboro, the DAV Post Pendleton King #10, and the Richmond Chapter #483 order of the Eastern Star, Hephzibah. 'I was Army, I am Army, I will always be Army.' May God Bless you; we thank you so very much, Dr. Dainer, Tex, Vicki and Kathy. In addition to his wife he is survived by sons Cecil Edward McCollum, Jr, Augusta, and Reverend James Randall (Randy) McCollum and his wife, Theda, Newport News, VA; daughter and son in law, Leslie McCollum Mobley and Jeff Mobley, Snellville, GA; brothers and sisters in law, Charles and Carolyn McCollum, Brunswick, GA, Cary and Linda Gail McCollum, McIntosh, FL, Norman and Jan McCollum, Pensacola, FL, and Joe and Mary McCollum, Brunswick, GA; and grandchildren, Heather Elise McCollum, Hunter Evan McCollum, and Hannah Elise Mobley. James Edward Slaton (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at University Hospital, Judge James Edward Slaton, husband of the late Sadie Slaton, father of Julia Carroll and her husband, Joseph Carroll, and grandfather of Jason Burroughs. Judge Slaton was a native of Savannah, where he resided until age 2 and then moved to Augusta. He attended the Academy of Richmond County, Augusta College, University of Georgia, holds a Doctor of Juris Prudence Degree from the Augusta Law School, and is a graduate of the National Judicial College. Judge Slaton enlisted in A Battery 214th Coast Artillery-Anti-Aircraft GANG in 1939 and served through WWII. In 1947 he was active in reestablishing the National Guard in Augusta. In 1950, he re-entered active duty during the Korean Conflict and served for 21 months. Judge Slaton served a total of 32 years and retired with the rank of Brigadier General. Judge Slaton was past President of Augusta Junior Chamber of Commerce, past Exalted Ruler of Augusta Elks Lodge No 205, Past District Deputy Exalted Ruler of Georgia Elks N.E. District, Honorary Life Member of Elks Lodge No. 205, past President of the National Guard Association of Georgia, past President of the Augusta Bar Association and past President of the Exchange Club of Augusta. He served 6 years on the City Council of Augusta. Judge Slaton served 5 years on the Augusta-Richmond County Planning and Zoning Committee. Judge Slaton was a member of the Bar for over 50 years and served as a general practitioner for 30 years with Cohen, Cohen & Slaton. He then served as Assistant Solicitor, Solicitor and Judge of the State Court of Richmond County. He was currently serving in the State Court of Richmond County as Judge Emeritus. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta where he serves as Deacon Emeritus and Co-Teacher of the Crusaders Mens Sunday School Class. He also served there as past Vice-Moderator and past Moderator. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison, Dr. Jack Robinson and Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Augusta, the Exchange Club of Augusta and the Augusta Bar Association. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
