School board hires corporate manager

Columbia County School Board trustees have decided to go corporate. On Tuesday night trustees voted unanimously to enter negotiations with the Facility Group of Smyrna, Ga., to become the school system's special manager for $22.3 million worth of capital outlay projects funded by the new local option sales tax. Last Tuesday, school officials interviewed five finalists: two individuals and three corporations. "The corporate providers appear to be the best," said Superintendent Tom Dohrmann, who recommended trustees select the Facility Group.
