`Framing' tests boundaries of copyright law on the web

On the World Wide Web, there are Web sites, and there are parasites. At least that's the view of some online publishers, who are chagrined to see their content packaged by others who affix their own advertising to it. The debate involves a technology called framing, which enables one Web site to display content from another Web site, partially superimposed with a new frame or border. The practice is testing the boundaries of copyright and trademark law on the Web, where complex material can be copied with a few strokes at a keyboard.
