Blanton new bank president

R. Daniel Blanton was named president of Georgia Bank & Trust and its holding company, Georgia Bank Financial Corp. on Wednesday, succeeding Pat Blanchard, who resigned to form another bank. Robert W. Pollard Jr., chairman of the holding company, announced the board had voted unanimously to elevate Mr. Blanton and to elevate Ronald L. Thigpen to Mr. Blanton's former post as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Mr. Thigpen was group vice president and chief financial officer of the bank.

Plans announced for bank

Patrick G. Blanchard, president and chief executive officer of Georgia-Carolina Bancshares Inc., announced Thursday the dedication of First Bank of Augusta. The new bank, which comes under the Georgia-Carolina Bancshares umbrella as a division of First Bank of East Georgia, will be Augusta's second locally owned bank. It will be located off Wrightsboro Road amid five regional bank branches near Daniel Village shopping center. "To us," Mr. Blanchard told the crowd gathered for a ceremony, "today is a historic day."
