AIKEN -- If Augusta's Bobby Jones Expressway is to get jump-started northward beyond the roadblock at the Savannah River, it will be up to Aiken County to do it.
An autopsy confirmed Monday what police in South Carolina and Georgia had theorized: the body found in a burned car near the Savannah River was David Holt, the Sam's Club manager who authorities believe was kidnapped and killed early Sunday. "No words can describe what we felt when our worst fears were confirmed (Monday) morning, and then the anger we felt. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family. They are our first priority," said Les Copeland, spokesman for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Bentonville, Ark. Sam's Club is a division of Wal-Mart.
South Carolina has vowed time and again -- starting back in the 1970s -- to extend Augusta's Bobby Jones Expressway into Aiken County. But it never happens, even though the extension is supposed to be a "top priority" for the state Highway...
When that faceless building under construction on the 3000 block of Washington Road is finished and opened in February, it will mark Jefferson Murray's fourth Krystal burger joint in the metro area. More are on the way. Mr. Murray recently bought Krystal franchising rights in Richmond, McDuffie, Columbia and Aiken counties and plans to build three more stores during the next 18 months. Mr. Murray's company, Georgia Carolina Foods Inc., operates Krystal franchises in Madison, Ga., in Aiken and at Augusta's Bobby Jones Expressway location.
