CLEARWATER, S.C. - Mr. Charles Edward Reames, Sr., 82, of Clearwater, SC, affectionately known as 'Coach Reames' husband of Gaynell Taylor Reames and the late Betty Reames, son of the late Carl and Elizabeth Chapman Reames, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at his home. Born in Laurens County, SC, he had been a resident of Aiken County, SC, most of his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Coach Reames graduated from Newberry College where he played football and was a member of the 1951 state championship baseball team. A retired Educator and Coach, he taught and coached at Leavelle McCampbell, Jackson, Claxton, L.B.C. and Midland Valley High Schools. He served on the Aiken County Board of Education, District #3 for eight years. He was a member of Clearwater First Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. A master mason, he was a member of the Horsecreek Masonic Lodge. In addition to his wife, family members include a daughter, Tammy Lowe, Bath, SC; step- daughter, Linda Hollifield, (Dan) Aiken, SC; sons, Chuck Reames, (Katie) North Augusta, SC and Todd Reames, Clearwater, SC; step-son, Tommy Key, (Sherry) Aiken, SC; siblings, Kenneth Ray Reames, (Kay) Tega Cay, SC, Betty Reames, Nyack, NY the late Carl J. Reames, the late Lester Reames, the late Sam Reames, the late Jack Reames, the late Joe Reames, and the late Gladys Prather, step-brother, Pete Boone, (Diane) North Augusta, SC; step-sisters, Joyce Mock, North Augusta, SC and Monteen Huffman, (Harold) Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Chip Reames, Kasey Reames, Kala Lowe, Brian Key, Tony Hollifield, and Christy Briggs, and great-grandchildren, Hunter Key, Anna Briggs, and Christopher Briggs, step-mother, the late Nora Reames, and a host of much loved nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, May 19th, 2009, at 3 o'clock at Clearwater First Baptist Church, Clearwater, SC, with Reverend John Bolin officiating. . Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bath, SC. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bagwell, Jody Clark, Phillip Pridgen, Gene Hughes, Pete Boone, and Jack Reames. Coach will be placed in the church at 2 o'clock Tuesday. The family has asked that memorials be made to Clearwater First Baptist Church, c/o the building fund, P.O. Box 610 Clearwater, SC 29822.
